The New Mexico Consortium (NMC) is looking for faculty to lead instruction of the Computer System, Cluster, and Networking Summer School 2012. The Summer School is funded by National Science Foundation (NSF) and organized by NMC in collaboration with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This successful annual program aims to give students a unique hands-on experience with high-end computing equipment, introduce them to the world of high performance computing, and give them some research experience. Students are given bare-metal computer systems, and are asked to set them up as a cluster using all techniques used to set up much larger computer systems. Students work on projects mentored by LANL technical staff and at the end of school present the results of their work as a poster in a conference style showcase. This summer position is ideal for those who have a Master’s degree in a relevant field and are early-career faculty who wish to find funding for 2-3 months during the summer. This is an opportunity to work with a very select group of 12-15 students in their junior/senior year from all over the nation. This position requires the faculty member to be on site at the NMC in Los Alamos, NM, during weekdays for the duration of the Summer School (1st week of June through the 2nd week of August). Ideal candidates have a strong background in Linux system administration, experience with high performance computing systems as well as a strong teaching record.
